Somehow, in our years of frequenting Philly's wonderful BYOB's, we had missed L'Angolo, on Porter between Broad St. and 15th in South Philly.
Not any more!
We stopped in for an unplanned early dinner on New Year's Eve. It was completely booked in the dining room, but we able to get seated in one of the two high tables across from the kitchen.
The food was excellent and the service was tops.
It's no use detailing what we ate because it was a special menu for that night. I can tell you that everything we had was outstanding. The two kinds of ravioli we had (again, not on the regular menu) were as good as at a current favorite spot in New York.
We had a good view of the plates leaving the kitchen area, so we made a mental list of dishes we wanted to try.
The regular menu prices are moderate.
Some of the Chowhounds on this Board have been recommending L'Angolo for quite a while, as does Maxine Keyser in the Citypaper, and we can see why.
It's great to have another "find" to add to our list!
