The Langers of Corned Beef

The posting below re: the old sandwich place at the Farmers Market, Magee's, made me curious. I had walked past the humble stand on the north side many times, barely noticing it. Based on reviews of the corned beef, I decided to give it a shot for lunch today.

The corned beef was as tender as the pastrami at Langer's. Completely juicy and savory, falling apart with the slightest tug of the teeth. I also ordered it with a schmear of the fresh horseradish, which was surprisingly milk, as well as a side of cole slaw which was recommended by others on this board.

There were downsides, however... all of which include the parts of the meal not related to the beef. The sandwich was very small, though the price matched ($6.49). Next time I think I will ask for double meat (hopefully they will do this), which will make it more comparable in both size (and price!) to other deli sandwiches in town. The cole slaw was $2.00 (!!!) for an ice cream scooped portion, and despite the positive words below, it was unremarkable and rather bland. Total bill.... $9.67, which seemed very expensive considering the small amount of food.

Oh but that corned beef.... that will definitely keep me coming back to Magee's.
