Land Thai redeems itself

Had a fairly underwhelming meal during my first visit to Land Thai about a month ago. Not BAD bad, just nothing to write home about. Was searching for another place in the same nabe last night and saw the place was 1/2 empty, an apparent rarity, so figured I'd give them "one more try."

Well, I'm happy to report that Land Thai is back in my good graces. Firstly, I think I just ordered a meal the last time that, in retrospect, was a tad on the bland side by design, and I didn't think to specially ask for it "Thai spicy." I was initially underwhelmed by a salmon rice dish I had.

Last night, we had the mixed appetizer platter to start. The shrimp and meat puffs/wraps were quite good, with specific dipping sources for each, but what really blew me away was the vegetable dumpling portion of the platter. The shell was that sort of sticky, pasta-ish style, but not so goopy that it stuck to the roof of your mouth, and the light peanut coating was excellent.

The best was yet to come when I dug into my Drunken Noodles with Chicken. First of all, it was QUITE spicy. I've stepped it up a bit on my spice quotient lately, so I think I have a skewed idea of what's "too spicy" for other diners, but make no mistake: DN w/C is noted on the menu for being the top-notch as far as spicy goes, and it was. Red and green peppers, onions, basil and chicken, with a Lo Mein-ish noodle. Just fantastic. My date had the shrimp w/cashews, and while she didn't think it was as good as what I was having, she thought hers was a marked improvement over our last time there.

So, my only new advice about Land Thai is to try it, and from my experience, it seems go with something a little on the spicy side in order for those flavors to really emerge.....
