LAN - really good sukiyaki

I went to Lan (on 3rd avenue between 9th and 10th street)last night. I'd never heard of it before but one of my friends who eats dinner (almost every night during the week)at Yokocho said that the staff insisted that Lan serves the best sukiyaki in Manhattan.

I was the first one of my party to arrive and sat at the bar to have a vodka and tonic... for some reason, my vodka and tonic was ONLY ONE DOLLAR. Where in Manhattan can you get a v&t for one dollar? For that matter, where else in the world can you get a v&t for one dollar let alone in manhattan? I kept asking the bartender, are you sure? are you serious? And he just said that this way he'd be sure that I'd be back. I don't know if they have a "ladies" special or what the deal is. Someone else try it and let me know.

Don't tell my mother, but the sukiyaki was the best I've ever had... or at least in the top two. They bring a gas grill to your table, put a pot on top, give you a plate of thinly cut marbled beef, cabbage, clear noodles, tofu, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and a teapot of their delicious sauce to cook it in. They will ask you if you want to start cooking it yourself or if you want them to start you off.

The cost was $24 for each person eating sukiyaki, a minimum of two people ordering sukiyaki at the table. And their Uni was really good too.

If you've never had sukiyaki this would be a great place to have your first.
