LaLoo's goat's milk ice cream: worth a taste

i sampled LaLoo's Goat's Milk Ice Cream at Draeger's in San Mateo on Saturday. if you like goat's milk cheese, you'll likely enjoy this as well. it's from Petaluma and is just starting to show up in Bay Area stores, i believe. As far as I know, it's only available here right now and no other companies are making goat's milk ice cream. i tried the Chocolate Cabernet, which apparently has a swirl of cabernet throughout. the little spoonful i had didn't have a swirl though, so i didn't get a chance to taste the cabernet. i ended up buying the Black Mission Fig. other flavors are chocolate, french vanilla, pumpkin, and cheesecake. i believe the cheesecake variety contains chevre.

at 6g of fat per 1/2 cup serving, it's pretty healthy. i think Ben & Jerry's averages 18g per 1/2c serving. Goat's milk also contains less lactose than cow's milk, so if you're lactose intolerant this might be a good choice. it's $7.50 per pint, so it's more expensive than other premium ice creams.

it's available from Draeger's (San Mateo only), Rainbow Grocery, Fenway Market, Bi-Rite Market, Harvest Ranch (in the castro and in SOMA), Berkeley Bowl, and in Andronico's in 2 weeks. i forget where in Marin it's available.
