LALA--Excellent Moderately Priced Japanese French in Little Tokyo

Jeremy Hunter | Sep 24, 2003 07:16 PM

My friend and I recently tried the new and struggling Restaurant LaLa in the Honda Plaza in Little Tokyo--a French-style Japanese place, with a very light touch. The food is fabulous! Dishes range from classic to creative and the prices are extraordinarily reasonable.

My friend had handmade scallop-shrimp stuffed ravioli covered in a light lobster cream sauce (...that was bisque-like heavenly!!). I had a plate of 3 large stuffed cabbages...the sauce was brothy and delicate--to tell the truth, better than my mother's sauce... Dessert was a homemade nougat ice cream, that was silky and cool. The service was sweet and prompt, just as any good Japanese place should be. Our bill came out to about $20/person.

The only trouble is because of its newness, there weren't any other customers! This place is really excellent and deserves to live!

Can I encourage you to try it out?

LaLa is located at 424 E. 2nd Street, between Alameda and Central.

Telephone: 213 625 2009.
