I found Lake Champlain chocolate in SF!

Bay Gelldawg | Oct 10, 2004 09:37 PM

After reading Candyfreak by Steve Almond, I just had to find Lake Champlain chocolate. Per their website, it is stocked by Whole Foods, but before I had a chance to get over there, I was walking past Bi-Rite on 18th Street near Guerrero when something at their counter caught my eye. Don't ask me how I recognized it from the street, but it was Lake Champlain chocolate!

I bought one each of the only things they carry from LC - the fruit & nut, caramel, and peanut 5 star bars. They are about $2.50 each for a hefty 1.7 ounce bar.

I didn't have the same experience that Steve Almond had when he ate them, but they were impressive in their size, shape, and straightforwardness. I probably wouldn't buy any of them again for myself, but I would definitely try any other Lake Champlain products I could find.
