Lack of Fish Crazy Driving Me

lucia | Mar 13, 2003 11:53 AM

The last like 2,000 times I've gone shopping, the only fish available are: farmed salmon, scrod, flounder, swordfish, and tuna. None of it of great quality. Considering half of these are fished-out, near-endangered species, this is totally frustrating and pathetic!

My stores are Peck's (Pine Plains), Grand Union (Millerton), La Bonne's (Salisbury, CT), Tiberio's IGA (Red Hook), and sometimes Stop & Shop (Rhinebeck).

Does anyone out there have a local source for decent fish? ISO mackeral, red snapper, trout, steelhead, whiting, smelt, tilefish . . . anything?

Northern Dutchess is my beat, but I go as far as NW Conn. and into So. Columbia to shop. Great Barrington, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie are just too far--40 miles minimum.
