Sixteen have expressed interest in our reserving Laboratorio with Roberto for a Chowhound 12 course, three hour to four hour + blow out dinner, possibly including several courses with truffles (perhaps even a separate menu for those interested), for October. These include Pam H. (from Baghdad, no less!!!), Lucien, Darien, James G., Bonz, Stray Gator, Tweaked, John B., myself along with spouses/partners, etc. I will have information on options for the dates in October (group vote will decide) along with confirmation of the price and our ability to bring a bottle of wine for a $15.00 corkage fee. (Of course there are other options: wine by the glass or the bottle from Laboratorio along with a wine pairing with each course for $60.00 per person. For many one of these will be preferred. For some the option to bring a bottle of wine from one's personal "stock" is quite important.) Laboratorio has a Wine Spectator Grand Award winning wine list which is one of the best literally anywhere. Laboratorio's Friday and Saturday night prix fixe price is $110.00 for 12 courses + wine, tax and tip. Weeknights are less. This may be more if we include several truffle courses but again, this will be a group vote.
I believe we will need at least 20 to guarantee the room. I'm guessing that we will need to have more than 20 if we are hoping for a Friday or Saturday night (as opposed to a weeknight). For a weeknight a total of 20 seems appropriate. Laboratorio's total seating is 28.
I believe that Roberto will personally enjoy this a great deal; he follows Chowhound and shares the same enthusiasm that all of us do. He even posts on here. (Yes, he does!!)
Are there any others who might have interest in joining us-assuming the date and price are acceptible? I am planning on contacting Laboratorio on Wednesday morning for specific information and just want to know approximately how many may have interest in doing this. Again, we currently have a total of 16.
Laboratorio also requires a credit card guarantee for each reservation. After my discussion with them I'll have the information to pass along for this. Again, I realize that for many of us to commit it will depend on the date and the approximate cost.
This has the potential to be one of the most incredible meals that can be experienced anywhere. Given the ambience and "theater" of Laboratorio (which essentially is a large Chef's table with Roberto cooking/assembling/"barking" only feet from each table!) I believe it is going to happen. It should provide warm (and filling/fattening) memories for all of us and this board for years to come.
