" LABORA " - Spanish 'food' civil war downtown King Street. W.

Charles Yu | Nov 19, 201811:23 AM     10

This relatively new comer to the downtown culinary scene was ranked #6 in Toronto Life 2018 Best New Restaurant list. Offering Spanish Tapas and Pintxos similar to its popular and highly rated competitor " Patria " located across the road, the seafood focused menu looked slightly more diverse, interesting and attractive, in my opinion.

Our party of eight Spanish food lovers descended on this dimly lighted establishment on a quiet Sunday evening.....so much so, I think a pair of Night-Vision goggles to help patrons read the menu is in order! Ha!

It was indeed a quiet evening since apart from our party, there was only one other couple eating at the counter facing the open kitchen. Our friendly and attentive lady server guided us through the menu as well as describing to us a couple of daily specials which included a seafood loaded Paella.

Overall, the food from the delicious Aceitunas Olive finger snacks to the addictive Jamon Iberico tomato bread tapas to the amazingly tasting slow roasted Quail Croquettas to the ultra- aromatic seafood paella laden with perfectly cooked seafood in a rich lobster broth to the Chocolate Almond Olive Oil cake were all highly commendable and super delectable! Those dishes that failed to 'wow' were still nicely prepared and attractive tasting.

All in all, a very enjoyable evening of great food and great company. Highly recommended and I hope they can survive?!
