Saw some recent good reviews in here and gave it a shot the other night....
Nice room, occupying the old Pepe's Taco site, basement level.... There was the g-friend and I, and though there were empty tables, the host (owner) steered us towards a 2 top, within inches of another couple- He said that was all that was available when we asked for something nicer ( it was our birthday dinner)- as we decided whether to stay or go, his wife ( assumption), brought us to a better table...
Crusty Italian bread was served warm and we started with an order of grilled vegetables.... All it amounted to was some grilled zucchini and yellow squash
drizzled with a little balsamic- yes, there was also a 1/8 wedge of tomatoe-- It could have used some grilled eggplant or portobello- but a rip at $5.95
She had a nice- well stocked minestrone, and I went with the House Salad- nice variety of greens- no pepper was offered.
We both chose Braciole, an item not seen on many menus in Chicagoland- It was served a little different than I've had before- It was rolled and sliced and served in a thick tomato sauce- The tomato sauce was extremely salty and ruined the dish-
In a neighborhood with a dearth of italian restaurants, we were hoping for a little more- we found it unremarkable
