Finally got to go to La Pollada De Laura, which I have read about on this page a few times. I loved the food. I know a lot of people have suggested that the chicken is not as good as at Pio Pio, but I have to disagree. I found the chicken, much fresher tasting and the spices just as interesting. Pio Pio, great as it was, still feels a bit like a chain (which I guess it is), and you get a bit of feeling that it suffers from all that comes from that (less ownership of the food, etc). I was however disapointed at De Laura with the Cancha (the large sauteed corn that is ubiquitous to peru, and is claimed to be early popcorn). In peru it often comes covered in oil and garlic. Last night it was a bit dry. Pio Pio didnt have it, and have yet to find someplace in outer boroughs that does a great job with Cancha.
