La Palma Chicken Pie Shop

Finally got to the La Palma Chicken Pie Shop in Anaheim this afternoon. The meal was good for the price, well done comfort food. My husband had a barbecued beef sandwich on a homemade onion roll with potato salad ($4.50) and a slice of custard pie. He loved the onion roll and the barbecue sauce and beef was "okay." The custard pie was a little too "eggy" for his tastes but I loved it. I had the Chicken Pie dinner which came with soup (i had chicken noodle- very good homemade noodles), a small salad with a very good blue cheese, small rolls, mashed potatoes (which were probably from a box), a chicken pot pie covered in chicken gravy (just chicken and gravy in it, no veggies), and a piece of heavenly pumpkin pie. All for a whopping $5.75. I have to say that this meal was good, and something I would probably return for, however the pumpkin pie is something I absolutely fell in love with. It is quite possibly the best I've ever tasted. I enjoyed it so much I actually bought a whole pie (which cost more than the meal- $7) on the way out. I couldn't stop talking about it on the way home, it was that good. The pie was so light and fluffy and creamy, perfectly sweetened with a nice flaky crust. They are currently taking orders for Thanksgiving so I'm sure I'm not the only one who's in love with it. I may just have to order another one. The service was good. After noticing a chicken bone on my plate (from the pot pie) when she was clearing the table, the waitress automatically credited our tab for two slices of pie even though I hadn't mentioned or complained about it. She was very nice. All in all, a good comfort meal for people on a budget and well worth the trip for the pie at least.
