My friend from Barcelona is having his birthday this week and I thought I would take him to La Paella on San Vicente since he's never been there. I've been there but it was years ago and we didn't have the paella. Friend is not a big fish lover (strange, I know, coming from Barcelona) but usually paellas have different meats--perhaps there are different paellas as well? If so, which one do you recommend? I had thought we would split a paella and share some tapas first (and probably their sangria, which I recall was quite delish). Do we have to order paella in advance on the phone? Or, on the other hand, are we better off just sticking to the tapas? I love paella but have only had it in New York years ago and once at the now defunct Cava on Beverly, which tasted good to me but I guess was not muy autentico.
If you know of any other Spanish restaurants close to the westside (Santa Monica) that are even better, let me know. This has come up not long ago on the board and nobody seemed to know of any.
Muchas gracias (pronounced grathias, the Spanish way)!
