La Nueva Bakery - Queso y Guayaba

Peter Cuce | Oct 3, 2002 10:47 AM

Last night after a tasty, cheap half rotisserie chicken and pork fried rice from Cada de Pollo Peruano, we stopped in at La Nueva Bakery on 37th Ave in Jackson Heights. I was incredibly full, but the Queso y Guayaba was too tempting to pass up, especially at 75 cents.
It consists of guava paste and cream cheese encased in a flaky, croissant-like pastry. It's not overly sweet and sort of reminds one of a cheese danish, a really good cheese danish. Highly recommended.
The hound I was with ordered a couple of empanadas, but I didn't get to taste them. Most of the other stuff looked painfully sweet, although they serve some interesting looking sandwiches and other tidbits.
