La Note, Berkeley

Had lunch at La Note. No recent topic except one on brunch so I thought I'd start one.

Their "pan bagnat" is really a massive tuna-salad sandwich with some elements from a salade niçoise: hard-boiled eggs, anchovies, tomatoes. Very good and I might order it again but it wasn't what I was in the mood for. Jambon-beurre was classic, boring to me but I guess nostalgic if you went to school in France. Nice mixed green salads with the sandwiches. Croque-monsieur at the next table looked great.

Never tried the desserts here before and was impressed. The chocolate-pear charlotte with raspberry coulis was also classic and delicious. The cafe San Trop was an affogato made with coffee ice cream, great combination, plus some chunks of dry, dense, crumbly brownies (?) that didn't make much sense.

On a sunny day, the back patio might be the nicest place for outdoor dining in the area.
