La Nacional - Report

Wow, what a find! La Nacional is an authentic, casual Spanish restaurant in the basement of a Spanish cultural center on 14th street near 8th Ave. We had two tapas - marinated anchovies (lots of oil, brine, and garlic) and fried chorizo. Both were perfect. Also shared an order of paella ($15), so good. Flan for dessert was well-executed. Lots of Spanish ex-pats hanging about. Can't believe this place isn't more on the chowhound radar screen. It really tastes and feels like Spain in there (with a little bit of old-time NY mixed in). Will definitely go back to sample more of their excellent tapas.
