La Luz Del Dia (Olvera Street)

Ernie | Feb 9, 2004 02:15 PM

My dad was in town and was craving The Pantry for breakfast on Sunday. This turned out to be a huge mistake a) I forgot how long the lines are on the weekends b) The Grammys had caused a huge chunk of Figueroa to be closed down

In frustration we ended up in Olvera Street and finally got to try La Luz Del Dia for carnitas. Dad had the menudo. The carnitas were good, tender, and flavorful, however did not have the crispness I prefer. Refried beans and the homemade corn tortillas were very good although a little grayish looking. A weak spot was the watery and flavorless house salsa. My father, a notoriously picky menudo guy, proclaimed their version was OK
