Four Chowhounds got together to try out this Puerto Rican place at the Navy Yard.
Ugh. That's my one-word review. Of course I'll let you know what we ordered and thought, but just in case any of you have developed brain fog, you can get the full meaning in one simple word.
Mofongo with chicken
A tripleta sandwich
Soup with shrimp, rice and blood sausage
The mofongo comes out very dry. Was this a mistake? No, you are supposed to pour over the liquid which comes in a small cup. But this was not explained to us when it was served. But even after the pour over, it still did not have that fluffy and hearty taste and texture that makes this dish a simple and profoundly heartwarming treat.
The tripleta has so many ingredients that should be make it a gloriously tasty sandwich featuring pork, steak, and ham. But this was completely underwhelming plus the bread was squishy.
The soup might have been very good if it were not so salty. Killed the whole mess.
Tostones were very good, hard to find better. But the habichuelas was a fairly dull recipe. This is not a great way to have your beans.
