Our second dinner at La Esquins on Kenmare & Lafayette was a true disappointment. It started with the confusion as we entered, the hostess telling us to go in one direction, then back out, then in again, after which they gave our party of three (with a reservation for 7:15) a choice of a tiny table that wouldn't accommodate us or food comfortably or to be part of a group table. They had several open tables and what followed was a bullying contest where we pointed to an open table for four and they argued, "That's a deuce or a foursome". We countered they'd accepted our reservation and should give us a table that's appropriate for a group of three. There was a bit of a stand-off, we asked for the manager and we finally prevailed....but only in terms of the table. The food, alas, was not what we'd remembered. There was a small choice of main courses so two of us had the roast chicken, which was okay, not special. The ribs were tasteless. Appetizers were miniscule so we cut up what were ridiculously small tacos and somewhat larger quesadillas (chorizo but with something sweet that didn't work). Margaritas were primarily ice and the small amount of liquid wasn't great, so we moved on to beers.
It felt unprofessional and this will be our last visit there.
