La Concentida, Santa Rosa

In search of a late night bite yesterday, I cruised Santa Rosa’s taco truck row on Sebastopol Road to see what was new. There were two trucks I’d not seen before, as well as my time-tested favorites. La Concentida has a sign posted, “Gorditas, Sopes, Enchiladas”, and looked like the more promising of the two newcomers. It has taken over the spot in the front parking lot of Triple S Tire & Brake (1124 Sebastopol Rd) where Karen’s hot dog cart used to be. A blue vinyl topped picnic table offers al fresco seating.

Before ordering, I talked to the cook to ask if the gorditas and sopes were made fresh to order, that is, the masa cakes are not made ahead of time and reheated. He held up a lump of uncooked masa and said, “I make it now”. He also recommended it with carne asada as the choice of meat. I also inquired about the enchiladas, and he described them as the flat style, three to an order.

It was a bit of a wait, but worth the time and $3.50. A crispy golden brown griddled corn cake with a creamy tender interior is split in half and filled with grilled steak, shredded lettuce, sour cream, shredded jack cheese, and hot sauce. I would have preferred some rubbery Mexican white cheese, but it’s a small quibble. The carne asada gordita was just the right bit of deliciousness at 11pm.

The hours for La Concentida are 5:30pm to 11:30pm daily and sometimes till midnight on weekends.
