L.A. Chowhound Seeks Advice for Labor Day Weekend

Jack Flash | Aug 26, 2003 05:12 AM

Hi all,

I'll be in Chicago from L.A. over Labor Day weekend, and have made it my quest to have a Chicago hot dog and a Chicago beef sandwich (pls. forgive if I don't have the lingo down quite right). On my previous visit several years ago, I had an OK but not amazing hot dog at the Cubs game, but somehow neglected to sample a beef sandwich.

I have some parameters here. I will be staying in the "Gold Coast" area and will NOT have a car. I have no problem w/public transportation, but would like to keep my transportation time to 30 mins. or less, if that's possible.

I will be going to an afternoon game at Wrigley, so any recommendations in that general neighborhood would be particularly welcome.

Breakfast suggestions (esp. local institutions)?

Lastly, I will be arriving after 9 on Thursday night, and will be looking for someplace to have dinner near my hotel. Is there anything still open at that time? Prefer casual, almost any ethnicity; but someplace the GF will find acceptable after being on a plane for a few hours.

Want to stay up to date with this post?
