LA Chowhound in NYC : Intro

Tom P | Jun 11, 2001 06:21 PM

I am a Los Angeles Chowhound that has been lurking on the NYC list for months, as I knew I was traveling to Manhattan for 5 days the first weekend in June. Thanks to all the Manhattan chowhounds for the wonderful posts and opinions. I have been to Manhattan many times, but my experience this trip was the best ever; the weather was glorious, the Park the most beautiful I have seen it (I bladed in the Park 2 hours every day) and thanks to you NYC chowhounds, I had some of the best meals I have ever had. I love food, and love dining in LA (if you ever get to LA, you must try my favorite LA restaurant, Lucques) but after this trip, I have to admit that New York may have LA beat when it comes to food. Anyway, I wanted to post my impressions and experiences, now that the trip is over. Rather than do one long post, I will do a few short posts, one for each restaurant, so that others may remark on each specific restaurant if they so desire. Again, thanks for all the advice. I cant wait for the next trip to try some more restaurants (although after some of the meals I had, it will be difficult not to repeat at least some of the restaurants). Also make note that my comments about service in the mini-reviews come from my own personal view of what service should be. I was a waiter for nine years, actually, at a high end restaurant in Beverly Hills, and while I don't think a waiter needs to be your best friend (that would be annoying actually) I do feel like it should be the goal of a restaurant and a server to make sure each customer feels special and taken care of, which really is not too terribly difficult.
