L.A. Chowhound coming to town

Hi --

My SO, his finicky 10-year-old and I will be in D.C. for five nights in early January. Where should we eat? We have a moderately generous expense account and like ethnic food and holes-in-the-wall as well as down-home Southern cooking. We don't want to get too dressed up but can throw on a dress or a pair of khakis if need be. The 10-year-old is a pizza/meat and potatoes kind of kid, though he can be cajoled to be more adventurous. We are staying near the zoo and won't have a car but are willing to take the metro and walk a little. Is Pizza Paradiso worth the trip? Any great Vietnamese? Soul Food? Is the Pleasant Peasant still around -- used to love their fried rolls and house salad dressing. Anything good near where the Wizards play? Thanks in advance.
