went to la buca the other night with high hopes for good italian food, unfortunately these hopes were not meet. the wife and i shared a margherita pizza that was under cooked, though even if it was cooked correctly it woudnt have made the pizza dough taste better than something out of the freezer section at ralphs. next the gnocchi with scamorza, bacon and tomato sauce. the gnocchi were very good, perfect light and fluffy texture although drowning in the tomato sauce. then the veal spezzatino (stew) with potatoes and a side of green beans. the stew was ok, could have been cooked a little longer and witth more salt. the green beans tasted like they came out of a can. we hoped to end on a good note with panna cotta but it didnt fare any better. the panna cotta was like rubber and the rasberry sauce that accompanied it tasted like it was treated with preservatives and came out out of a bottle.
the service was very warm and friendly and the restaurant was small and cozy. it really was a shame because we wanted to love the food. next time i will spend a little more money and go to angelini osteria.
