My beloved Chowfolks, had an astounding meal tonight at La Buca on Melrose across from Paramount. Heard good things on this board so I thought I’d check it out...Very tiny room, maybe 8 tables—but NO CORKAGE. That’s right, none, so we brought two nice bottles, a 98 Puligny-Montrachet and a 97 Brunello. Service casual but warm, we ordered in Italian. Burrata salad special with different salumi (speck, bresaola), cherry tomatoes, avocado, arugola, light olive oil. Astounding flavors, tons of food, great for sharing. Then we spilt a white pizza (there’s a whole section of them on the menu) with prusciutto, walnuts and truffle oil. Paper thin. These ingredients went together just BEAUTIFULLY, and I highly recommend this, it is on the regular menu. Very light, just like in Italy. We then spilt a pasta special, lightly sauced with sausage and San Marzano tomatos, and finished with an ultralight, ultrarich tiramisu. Flawless food throughout, good service, cramped room (but very reminiscent of the cramped quarters in urban Italian restaurants), and, get this: $52 for 4 shared courses, and a bottled water, no corkage. An absolute steal. Along with Rocca and La Terza, this is now among my 3 fave Italian places in town. Will be back frequently....THANKS for the rec. This is a must-visit for lovers of authentic Italian food.
