My (late) review of La Brasserie.ca:
Went early last week for the prix fixe menu.
When we arrived the patio was half full. My guest and I opted to sit in the restaurant and we were the only ones in there. The service was attentive to say the least. The waiter took the time to translate or explain preparation techniques for my guest.
The prix fixe changes daily but is limited to only two choices. Three courses, it consisted of vichyssoise or house salad, moules frite or poulet frite and a sorbet for dessert.
I chose the vichyssoise for my first course. It was a particularly hideous colour of green but generally good. The salad my guest had was your run-of-the-mill garden with a dijon/vinaigrette dressing.
We both had the moules frites, which was excellent. A huge bowl of mussels arrived for each of us. They were bathed in a delicious garlic, creamy broth. The fries arrived separately. They were shoe-string in size and nicely crisp.
The sorbet was a surprise. Instead of the usual mango/raspberry combination, we were served three balls of banana, pineapple and exotic fruit.
So, to conclude, the service was excellent and the food good. My one reservation was that the menu seemed limited. I'm not sure if I'll be back soon but I wouldn't run from this restaurant either.
