Hi. Long-time lurker, first time post here... can anyone tell me what in gods name happened to La Bouillabaisse on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn Heights??!?
I lived here from 1997 to 2001 and it was a fantastic little authentic French Bistro. Owner in the back puttering over the bills, always chatting up the regulars, and most important, AMAZING food, especially for the money.
Well, I moved back a few months ago, took a friend there, and the moment I walked through the door I should have known something was wrong.
Completely redocorated with this horrible salmon covered sponge painting on the walls... faux brick painted in the corners, heavy white linen table cloths... but with glass on top. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. No owner to be seen, and when most tables should have been taken, if not all of them... there was only one occupied table.
Well, I asked the host if it was the same owner... he said they cleaned up about 18 months ago... I asked again if it was the same owner, he said the same cooks were in the kitchen... the same guys who'd been there for decades.
We stayed. We ordered. It was literally the worst meal I've ever head in Brooklyn. My shrimp and scallops in linguini tasted like it was a frozen TV dinner. The scallops were so overcooked that they turned to paste in my mouth. I won't even comment on my friend's dish.
So, my question is... does anyone know what happened to the old restaurant? Does the owner (Neil?) have a new place? I'm afraid that after this went and Peter's Ice Cream Parlor closed up to become a hair salon, next will be Sahadi's!
