Thanks very much to the LA Board for some prior recommendations that I was able to use during a recent business trip! I'd definitely go back to both places I tried.
Went to Sushi & Kushi Imai twice since it was near the office--once for dinner and then back the next day for lunch. At dinner, I ordered salmon sashimi, crunchy spicy tuna roll, and baked avocado--and was stuffed. I'd missed happy hour by a long shot, so it came out to about $38 (including a beer and tip). For lunch, I had a tempura and sashimi combination-- nice to see a different presentation (on a large round platter than in a box). The sashimi cuts seemed to be a little smaller for lunch. Everything tasted good but was not especially memorable, and came to about $18 or so, with a drink. The interior is on the casual side, but benefits from dimmed lighting. Very attentive and friendly waiters.
Also went to Enoteca Drago for dinner on Thursday night. Arrived at about 8:30 or so, and the restaurant was probably less than half full, compared with Il Pastaio (?) on the corner, which was packed.
I sat at the bar and had a champagne/sparkling wine flight, the vegetable and bread soup, and the mushroom/blueberry risotto. Didn't really enjoy the soup, since what I'd been craving was more along the lines of tomato/bread soup, and there were a lot more vegetables in what was served. Very much enjoyed the risotto, but kept looking for a few more blueberries... The desserts all looked delicious, but I didn't try any since I wasn't going to be able to eat another bite for a few hours, and couldn't find an obvious to-go option. :)
