Kyoto Calls and Me Without a Clue

steamer | Oct 2, 2007 08:31 AM

I never figured I'd make it to Kyoto and if I ever went there my heavyweight food connections would show me around, So I never bothered to study up on the city at all. Suddenly I've got 2 days (Mon-Tues next week) work there and my connections are out of town. Need suggestions for a place to go. Not looking for high class kaiseki or kappo, just a simple place not expensive that has good shochu or sake and dececent food and an interesting friendly sort of master. Something along the lines of Akaoni or sasagin in Tokyo, or if Western style something along the lines of Buri---Any ideas?
