Kung Fu Kitchen in Alexandria - Report

Steve | Feb 8, 202005:41 AM

Kung Fu Kitchen is an expansion from NYC specializing in a focused menu of buns and noodles. I tried two kinds of buns: xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and sheng jian bao (fried on the bottom soup dumplings). The xlb come with a choice of three filling, have a thin wrapper, and are loaded with soup. The fried dumplings are thick and doughy with a larger pork meatball inside.

I got the crab and pork xlb, and they were exceptional. I prefer the fattiness of the xlb at Bob's in Rockville, but I don't want to quibble with deliciousness. And you do have to be careful with how you eat these.

The fried dumplings are also very good, and these are my favorite in the area. They have a nice salty hit to the soup and you can actually taste the sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Still, I'd first go with the xlb if you only get one kind. Expect a wait, but these babies are fresh, hot, and delicious.

They also offer stir-fry noodles, noodles in soup, and dry noodle dishes (sauce served in the bowl, but not mixed in).
