I am going on a trip to India this fall (see linked post) and am flying Malaysia Airlines, which allows me to spend time in Malaysia on the way back to the U.S. I am very very excited since I have heard and read that food in Malaysia is awesome. In fact, this is one of the major reasons I chose to fly Malaysia airlines (luckily it was also the cheapest ticket, but I didn't need too much convincing to spend a few days in Malaysia). I have already read (and printed out to bring with me) a post from 2003 by foodfirst, titled "Kuala Lumpur, or how to gain 4 pounds in less than 4 days", which is excellent. This is the only big Kuala Lumpur post I have found though.

I will be in Malaysia for 6 days, not sure yet if I will leave KL for a few days to see other places or if I will just take day trips or what. Any advice would be much appreciated. Any recommendations for food in KL or surrounding areas would also be appreciated. Specifically, I want to know the best dim sum (which I will have more than once probably, so more than one option is good so I can report on the differences, etc.), best hawker stalls for chinese and malaysian, best seafood, best fruit markets, pretty much everything and everything. I probably won't be too interested in Indian food since I will have just come from there, but any type of food is great.
I also would love advice about how it will be eating in KL by myself. I will hopefully meet people to eat with some of the time, but since I will be traveling alone in Malaysia, I might have some meals on my own. Are there certain places that are better or worse for solo dining?
Finally, if there are any chowhounds who will actually BE in Kuala Lumpur between November 15 and Nov 21, please email me. I would love to meet up with you and I'd be happy to take you out to lunch or dinner if you show me a good place to eat! Email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks in advance for any advice, restaurant recs, etc.
