Kuala Lumpur - Two KL-style Hokkien Fried Noodle Places in Paramount Garden

One evening, two legendary KL-style Hokkien fried noodle spots in Paramount Garden:

Hokkien Noodle Spot #1: Famous Hokkien Mee @ Mei Yen
Famous Hokkien Mee stall at Mei Yen restaurant, past the popular SeaView coffeeshop in SEA Park. Owner-chef, Siow Teng Lai has been frying his black, sticky version of Hokkien noodles since 1965. His noodles were incredibly aromatic and had a depth of flavor unlike any I'd tried before. Pork, shrimps, cabbage and lardons dot the thick, fat noodles glistening with lard.

Another noodle dish done well there was "bee hoon" (thin rice noodles) stir-fried with tasty stewed pork belly. Ultra-tasty, sinfully rich.

Hokkien Noodle Spot #2: Ah Wah Hokkien Mee @ Restoran Millennium Eighty Six
Owner-chef Ng Choon Hua, nicknamed "Ah Wah", who plied his trade for more than 40 years. His masterful rendition of KL-style Hokkien noodles was deceptively paler in color than that from Famous Hokkien Mee @ Mei Yen, but packed with just as much flavor. Main ingredients were also pork, shrimps, cabbage and lots of lardon. In fact, I found it pretty addictive compared to the more flavorsome one at Mei Yen - each mouthful increasing the yearning for more. What secret ingredient(s) *did* he put in his noodles?! ;-)
