Kuala Lumpur - Home-cooked flavors from Mei Xiang Saltfish Delicacy (美香咸魚飯店)

Mei Xiang's the perfect spot if one wants a taste of KL Cantonese-style home-cooking - just plain, good, old-fashioned cooking yielding honest-to-goodness dishes with robust flavors.

What we had for lunch:
- Radish and pork soup: intense flavors resulting from slow-boiling the soup to extract all the flavors out from the pork-ribs and the sweetness from the radish;
- Stir-fried prawns with bitter-gourd and salted duck's egg-yolk-flavored sauce;
- Steamed minced pork patty with chopped dried cuttlefish. This was my fave dish of the day - the sweetness from the pork, with enough fat to provide the deliciously rich flavor and texture, whilst the cuttlefish provided a salty tang and irresistible fragrance; and
- Steamed fish with salted black beans and chillis. Not my fave but my dining companions loved it.

This place's a keeper ;-)
