George & the Dragon at the upscale Bangsar Shopping Centre provides a welcome respite from KL's street food if one's looking for something a bit different. What we had:
- Pigs in blanket, baked bacon-wrapped Cumberland pork sausages. The sausages were surprisingly good, bacon was sliced wafer-thin so lacked the body & flavors I was looking for, but resulted in a pleasant crispiness. Mustard dip could have been better though.
- Wild boar curry. This turned out to be the highlight of our meal. The meat was melt-in-the-mouth tender, perfectly complemented by floury wedges of Idaho potatoes; the delicious curry gravy was perfectly seasoned, and one of the best curries I'd had in KL so far. A generous basket of sliced baguette was thoughtfully provided to mop up the gravy. I'll come back to the pub for this.
- Steak & onion pie, served with mash, boiled carrots/cauliflower/broccoli & gravy. The pie crust was flaky & buttery, meat filling had perfect texture and flavors. Mashed potatoes were too gummy, and boiled vegetables were slightly underdone.
Beers available run the gamut from popular local brews (Guinness, Tiger, Carlsberg, Heineken) to usual suspects like Kilkenny, Hoegaarden, Stellar Artois, Old Speckled Hen, etc. The Snakebite (cider-beer) was the perfect drink for a warm day here.
