Alexis Bistro, so I heard, set the bar for trendy dining spots in Bangsar when it opened over a decade ago.
Some of the stuff we had this evening:
- Deep-fried calamari, crispy shrimps and baked button mushrooms with baguette & creamy dip. They were all nice, especially the toasted baguette slices;
- Nasi Ulam, Malay-style herbed rice, served with spicy-sourish chicken assam pedas, spicy-battered prawn fritters, grilled baby aubergines topped with sambal and an interesting salad of ferns dressed in dessicated fresh coconut, sambal belachan & lime juice. The whole concoction was really nice, but falls short of the Nasi Kerabu I tried in Penang, Kota Bahru (Kelantan) and Malacca. It needed more flavors in the herb mixture for the rice;
- Sarawak Laksa. Alexis purportedly makes one of the best versions in KL. I liked it, but it was nowhere as good as those I'd find almost anywhere (my fave is the one on Carpenter Street) in Kuching, Sarawak.
- Dessert: Pavlova!! Sweet of my childhood!! Studded with very fresh strawberries & blueberries - I went ga-ga for this :-D
