Many moons ago, my parents best friends (Yugoslavian imigrants) used to make a fantastic anise flavored Christmas cookie they called Krostule (Angel Wings) and I'd like to add them to my family's christmas cookie repertoire. They were light, puffy deep fried strips of twisted goodness that were dusted in powdered sugar. As a kid, I always looked forward to the Christmas eve delivery of these incredible cookies.
Despite many tries, she would never give up her recipe. We have tried to duplicate using other krostule l or crusciki recipes, but can never replicate the subttle anise flavor or the light puffy texture. They were almost like strips of deep fried flakey pie dough. Anyone have an "old country" recipe?
