Restoran Hover is one of culinary landmarks in Kota Bharu, famed for its "Nasi Sumatera", Kelantan's take on Indonesian "Nasi Padang". IMO, "Nasi Sumatera" tastes infinitely *better* than "Nasi Padang", with its blend of Malay-Thai spices giving the dishes a sweet-sourish tinge, made richer with the addition of coconut milk, which is characteristic of Kelantanese cuisine. The Kelantanese also loved adding fenugreek to their cooking (which is absent from Indonesian food) that gave their dishes an intoxicating fragrance.
I loved the breakfast options at Restoran Hover - either steamed white rice or the rich "Nasi Dagang", with a plethora of curries and side-dishes to choose from.
It's an oft-repeated refrain for gourmet tourists in Kelantan: go to Hover for "Nasi Sumatera", Yati for "Ayam Percik", Capital Cafe for "Nasi Dagang" and White House Cafe for "Roti Bakar dengan Kaya".
