[Kosice, Slovakia] Whole roasted pig & stuff at Koliba Zlatá Podkova

klyeoh | Aug 1, 201510:47 AM     5

Situated about 15 minutes' drive from the town centre, Koliba Zlatá Podkova looked beautifully rustic - large traditional Slovak buildings and heavy wooden furniture. The staff were professional and very attentive - eventhough the Wed evening was surprisingly busy.

There were 12 in our party - so we were able to pre-order a whole roasted pig for mains.

Main building at Koliba Zlatá Podkova.

Starters: Duck-liver with cranberry sauce.

One of the best renditions of this dish I'd ever tasted.

Smoked salmon with slaw.

Soup course: Beef consomme with noodles.

The whole roasted pig was carried in.

The whole roasted pig, Slovak-style.

Whilst the skin was not as crisp or crackling as we'd like it to be, the meat was pretty melt-in-the-mouth tender. It's served with a generous selection of pickles, aubergines, freshly-sliced onions & capsicums, and bread.

Dessert: Tvarohovo - potato pancakes with berries.

Dessert: Chestnut puree with whipped cream

Pancake filled with walnut cherry chocolate and whipped cream.

Slovakian palacinka, done very well here - the chocolate sauce was thick and rich, complementing the crepe perfectly.
