kosher salt v "regular" salt

I have about 3/4 of a box of Kosher salt left from when I bought it for gargling after I had my wisdom teeth out (sorry about the visual). Anyway, I have barely touched it since. I had a container of "regular" standard table salt, which it has taken me years to use up, since I am just not a salt person and have never had the habit of putting salt on things...I use it in water when I boil pasta, and sometimes on potatoes or tomatoes...

Anyway, how does Kosher salt differ from regular table salt? To what extent can they be used interchangeably or not? What other kinds of salt are there, anyway (I've heard of sea salt...for example, but isn't all salt from the sea originally ? YOu can tell I wasn't a chem major...hahaha)
