Korean Walnut Cakes?

Frank | Jul 7, 2004 03:46 PM

Korean Walnut Cakes. Sound weird? Well, don't knock them until you try them.

When I was in Toronto a couple weeks ago, I was turned on to them. I can't really explain what they are, exactly. But, I'll try.

They're like a dumpling (I suppose), and they're a walnut brown. The dough is formed into a walnut shape. And, they are stuffed with mashed potatoes and almonds, or red beans. There are other variations, which I wasn't brave enough to try.

The dough is sweet, but the sweetness is tempered by the mashed potatoes. The red bean ones are just sweet all together, however.

I drove down to Korea Town last night, and couldn't find them. But, I asked a few people and they said I can get them in L.A. They just didn't know where.

Does anyone know where? ANYONE!! They're really, really good.
