New Korean Market in Daly City -- what should I look for?

Nancy Berry | Jan 21, 200309:39 AM     5

I just went to a new Korean market in Daly City called Kukje Super Market. It's at 2350 Junipero Serra Blvd. -- it used to be an Any Mountain outdoor store. Their phone number is (650)992-0333.

They have a huge selection of Korean and Japanese dry noodles, lots of different flours (barley, potato, etc.), a very large selection of house made (I think I got the name right) Ban Chan -- those little side dishes you get at Korean restaurants, lots of Korean and Japanese sauces and other groceries, frozen Korean dumplings, gallon jars of kim chi, etc., etc. The store also contains a bakery, a household goods department and a small cafe. The fresh vegetables didn't look so great and the meat department was quite small. This looks to be a place for groceries and "deli" items rather than fresh meat and veggies.

What I'd like to know from the knowledgeable folks on Chowhound is what brands to look for or what items might be unique to Korean as opposed to other Asian grocery stores. What should I look for in the dry noodles? There were loads of soba noodles at a wide range of prices, for example. I just closed my eyes and picked some -- same with udon.

Also, if anyone has some good Korean recipes, I'd love to see them now that I can get some "authentic" ingredients.

TIA
