I've been enjoying the Korean food at Jane Cafe (92 Main St.) in Mineola lately. I finally ordered a Hwe Dup Bap, which a waitress had recommended to me on my first visit. I was in the mood for beef at the time, so I mentally stored the tip for later. Hwe Dup Bap is slices of raw fish, assorted vegetables and seaweed over a huge bowl of rice. It's topped with a spicy red bean paste and sesame oil. The proper way to eat it is to mix it all up and eat it with a spoon. If you use chopsticks, you'll get laughed at (guess how I know).
I've also tried the beef noodles which are a lunch special for $7.50. Actually beef noodles is something of a misnomer as besides strips of beef and hand cut noodles, the bowl is full of baby mussels, tiny ocotopi, fish cakes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, baby corn, and onions. When I finished the bowl I felt full and vaguely wholesome.
