Konjac/Glucomannan Powder

I have been trying to use Konjac powder as a thickener but have not been having much luck and was looking for advice.

I have had success with Xanthan gum in rice pudding but when I try and replicate it with Konjac powder no such luck. My current recipe is 3/4 of t tsp per cup of liquid but the tricky bit is when should I add it? to get it to thicken I have been adding it prior to cooking and letting it sit in the fridge for a few hours prior to warming it. The problem I have is while it is sitting it clumps something awful. I have also tried cooking it and adding it after cooking the rice but it doesn't seem to thicken it very much compared to Xanthan gum....
