Who remembers the neighborhood convenience store, Kong's Market in Pleasure Point, famous for its egg rolls? I tried them during our stay at a beach house in October 2011.

The market has closed but the husband and wife owners have reopened in Watsonville to serve the signature, King Kong Burger. I tried it for lunch in August.

This is essentially a cheeseburger topped with Korean-style spicy pork. A bit sweeter, saucy and not so spicy to my palate, and made for a wet and sloppy, but very tasty lunch. I had brought my own take-out container, as shown in the photo, expecting to take half of it home, but it was much too easy to finish on the spot.

The man behind me in line let me take a photo of his Bibimbap, the second most popular item on the menu, after the King Kong Burger.

Apparently there's a salad too in third place in the popularity contest but not listed on the overhead menu. At the time, the salad was only available in very limited quantities and customers were advised to call ahead to reserve one. The cafe also serves espresso drinks. Oddly, no eggrolls on the menu.
