hi - this is a repost written by someone not me (I got the ok to post it here and second his suggestion to stop by):
Yesterday I stopped in at Koch's Deli (Philadelphia - Locust St. between 43rd and 44th streets). I found Bob Koch preparing to reopen his legendary deli on Thursday but concerned about getting the word out. So I told him I would post it here on phl.food newsgroup and [what the heck] NYC Foodgroup too [for all the Penn alumni there.
For many of us Koch's is the best sandwich shop in Philadelphia having won several best of Philadelphia magazine awards and the hearts of Penn, Temple and Philadelphia Pharmacy grads everywhere.
The shop has been closed since the death of Frances Koch earlier this spring. Mrs. Koch's death followed a month after terrible auto accident which left Bobby with many broken bones and unable to walk for awhile. For Bobby, the new year (Rosh Hashanah) could not have come at a better time.
For those of you who have never experienced Koch's, the belly-busting sandwiches are made to order, take-out service only, and while you wait in line - they feed you sliced cold cuts and good humor.
Please consider stopping by for a sandwich and a visit. Bring your smile, appetite and a new joke for Bobby. Remember that the deli is closed on Wednesdays.
