Situated right on the waterfront. Having just arrived in town, we had no reservation and, when we turned up at 8, there were no tables. Asked to return in 20 minutes. Did so. Still no tables. Manager kept saying there would be one “any minute” but it was not until 9 that we sat down.
It’s very much a bog standard steak and seafood type place with a few pasta dishes dishes chucked in. My partner started with scallops wrapped in bacon and these were a success – sweet scallops, crispy salty bacon. I also picked a winner – very tender squid rings, served with tartare sauce and a spoonful of rice. One main was a lasagne that tasted oddly sweet (and may possibly have the cause of what is politely called an “upset stomach” the next day). It came with salad which, seemingly inevitable in South Africa, had feta scattered through it. Meanwhile, I was seeing off a decent T-bone steak – not the finest quality of beef, but cooked bang-on at medium rare and of an OK flavour. As accompaniments, a few chips and green beans.
All in all, some very reasonable plates or food here, although not worth the hour’s wait.
