finally made my way to Kitchen on avenue road - very small, I understand the need for reservations as the place does fill up quickly.
An overwhelming smell was very offputting with the hubby .. runied his dinner in fact.
A guest in our group came in to exchange loonies for the paking meter, first comment "it smells like fish in here". Something needs to be done about the ventillation.
We tuffed it out .... good value given the qulity of the food we received - under $200 for the five of us with appetizers.
Something about wine served in a water glass irks me; maybe I missed this new trend from last few years stemless trend but like I said I am tough - it was a nice cab sav.
Mushoroom soup .. fantastic, rich
Hummus .. very good, fresh made I believe; served with grilled pita and relly nice olives - not marked on the very small menu
We could have stopped at the appetizers, being quite full but we soldiered on ...
rack of lamb - the crust was delicious with great flavor and cooked to perfection as was the (market cut) sea bass, just a wee bit fishy
the veal chop (off menu) perfectly executed, strange word for this purpose..
Chicken of the day was pot pie - It was a lunchbag letdown, too rich almost but here was an underlying saffron flavor that just did not belong in a comfort food and a little heat kick at the tail end which also did not work with the dish. A little more heartiness and a little less flare would have made this a winner with the puff pastry but alas not something we would order again.
I would consider another visit if the ventillation system were addressed, the service was adequate and the delivery was timely, but the smell was just something we had a hard time overcoming.
5 of 10 if I had to rate entire package ..
food alone 8 of 10 ....
