Does anyone know what kind of fish is used in jewish-style fried splitfish or chaback?

When I was growing up in Philadelphia, my dad would make a fried splitfish or chaback (not sure of spelling) with onions for Sunday breakfast. I haven't been able to find out what kind of fish was used so I can purchase it to fry at home in Orlando, FL. Does anyone know?
