Who killed the DC halfsmoke?

Ziv | Dec 17, 201006:30 AM     22

I went downtown for the first time in a long while and decided to have a halfsmoke from a vendor on 10th Street. I used to really enjoy them, the smell of the dog, the look of the rich reddish dog, the chopped onion slathered with just a touch of mustard, the pop of the casing as you bit into it! Ahh... That was a dog!
But the dog I got was a bland, fat tannish mishmash with no casing, and no flavor to speak of! I know the vendors all get their supplies from the same building, so I imagine that they all have switched to a new halfsmoke, which is pathetic. I imagine I can still get a good one if I go to Ben's or to Eastern Market, but you used to be able to get a good dog from just about any vendor, and it seems like that is not the case anymore, or did I just accidentally get a hotdog when I asked for a halfsmoke?
